The Safer Access For All (SAFA) project aims to tackle online gender-based violence (OGBV) in Iraq through the development of an AI-based social media monitoring tool, capacity-building initiatives, and data-driven advocacy. Implemented by Democracy Reporting International (DRI) in partnership with the Iraqi Network for Social Media (INSM) and the Jordan Open Source Association (JOSA), SAFA builds upon previous work in AI-based hate speech detection. The project will enhance evidence-based monitoring of OGBV in Iraqi Arabic and Kurdish, foster peer-learning among digital rights experts, and engage key stakeholders in advocacy efforts to promote safer online spaces.
