Working on the Frontlines and Staying True to Our Community00a0

Rebecca Lichaa,Programme Manager,Smart Municipality Academy

Our greatest achievement during this challenging period was the support we provided to first aid workers in Deir al-Ahmar,who were tirelessly helping inteally displaced people. Our assistance enabled them to engage 17 new volunteers—an effort that proved crucial in meeting the needs of both the local community and the displaced population. Our guidance and support not only empowered the volunteers but also gave them the confidence and tools they needed to connect with donors. Their efforts even eaed them a prime-time news appearance, where they shared their work and accomplishments. This exposure helped them raise funds and, more importantly, use those funds effectively, thanks to the training they received through the Smart Municipality Academy.

This sense of duty is ingrained in me. My deep love for my country and my community is what has driven me to continue working, day after day, especially in an area that welcomed thousands of displaced people and was severely impacted by airstrikes. Our approach at SMA has always been to work with what I have, addressing issues with the resources available to me. It’s in our genes to be proactive,to find solutions, and to devise mitigation plans. As we retu to our original programming,we find that our outcomes remain consistent, and our commitment to the community is as strong as ever.
