On November 26, Democracy Reporting International together with the German-Ukrainian Bureau (DUB) will host a series of workshops and an evening panel discussion entitled “Democracy in War: Resilience and Future of Ukraine’s Democratic Institutions.”
Russia’s ongoing war of aggression poses an existential threat to Ukraine and has placed immense pressure on its democratic institutions. Despite immense pressures and several war restrictions, many of Ukraine’s democratic institutions remain in place. These institutions’ resilience and functioning are critical for the country’s war and post-war governance, recovery, and the EU accession process. The full-scale war is soon entering its fourth year, and the question remains: How is Ukraine’s wartime democracy both on the national and local level faring under the massive security threat and economic challenges?
To properly analyze the situation we bring together Ukrainian and German analysts, experts, civil society representatives, legal experts, MPs, Ministry officials, think tanks, NGOs, and journalists. The discussions will be informed by “Ukraine’s Democratic Institutions During the War: A Check-Up,” a report prepared by Democracy Reporting International (DRI) in partnership with the CPLR and RPR Coalition in 2023. It examined Ukraine’s democratic institutions during the war and the upcoming 2024 update report. Moreover, this event will continue the discussion held in Kyiv on 1 November, “Democracy During the War: Ukraine’s Experience and Lessons For The World”.
The detailed program of workshops and the evening panel discussion is available here.
If you are in Berlin and interested in participating in the event, please register your interest by November 22.
Venue and location details will be shared with participants upon successful registration.
The event is organised in partnership with the Reanimation Package of Reforms Coalition, Center of Policy and Legal Reforms, The German Plattform for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, and is part of the Ukraine-DARE project supported by the German Federal Foreign Office.
