Supporting democratic governance and elections through International Law

Summary

International law contains a large number of obligations relevant for democratic governance and democratic elections. Contrary to conventional wisdom, these obligations are often detailed and comprehensive. This is the remarkably positive finding of a study by Democracy Reporting International and The Carter Center. Nevertheless there are areas where the international law framework could be strengthened.
