BP90: Strengthening Representation and Accountability in Myanmar’s Local Government

Between 2012 and 2013, Myanmar saw important changes at the lowest level of its governance system with Regional parliaments establishing new semi-elected deliberative institutions. This briefing paper assess the different regional legal framework regulating these newly established bodies, and explores potential reform options based on international standards to make local government authorities more responsive and accountable to their citizens.
