In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, how does Moldova strengthen its democratic resilience? Empowering civil society with the necessary tools to navigate and address disinformation is a crucial step forward. At Democracy Reporting Inteational (DRI),we believe that unchecked digital manipulation threatens democratic resilience. That’s why we equip civil society organisations (CSOs) with the necessary tools to monitor social media, identify disinformation trends, and advocate for fact-based digital discourse.
Our latest efforts take place in Moldova, where our research team conducts an intensive Social Media Monitoring Training for four media and human rights organisations. This training is running from February 20 to March 6. The training brings together 19 participants from different 4 organisations, fostering a dynamic exchange of insights and expertise.
Organisations in the training seek to understand how digital platforms shape public opinion, narratives, and democratic processes. Their focus is on monitoring hate speech, disinformation, and applying qualitative methods to ensure a more transparent digital space.
Through four structured modules, the course blends theoretical leaing with practical training, preparing participants to conduct research and analyse data effectively. Committed CSOs play a key role in identifying harmful narratives and demanding accountability.
This aligns with INSPIRED Moldova’s project goal of strengthening organisations’ capacity to analyse social media content during Moldova’s 2025 parliamentary elections. Participants will apply qualitative analysis methods from DRI’s Digital Democracy Monitor Toolkit to enhance monitoring effectiveness.
The project aims to support civil society in Moldova in actively influencing national policies and contributing to the country’s EU integration by engaging CSOs in political processes at the national and local levels, including with a digital component. Additionally, the project will encourage dialogue and collaboration with public authorities, ensuring that civil society becomes a key player in promoting democracy in Moldova.
The project INSPIRED Moldova is funded by the European Union and implemented by the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD),u202f the European Association for Local Democracy (ALDA),the National Center for Assistance and Information of NGOs in Moldova CONTACT,the Center for Policy and Reform (CPR Moldova),Democracy Reporting Inteational (DRI) and People in Need (PIN).
