The Youth for Democracy (#YFD) project aimed to reconnect young people and local authorities in Tunisia’s Sfax Governorate, fostering trust and collaboration in local governance. Implemented in partnership with We Youth, the project equips youth (18-34) with knowledge and tools to enhance their community engagement.
Over 14 months, #YFD supported 7 youth-led initiatives, engaging 21 young leaders and 7 community-based organisations (CBOs) through training sessions. It also facilitated coordination workshops and conferences with 4 municipalities to promote inclusive governance. Given the historical disconnect between youth and local authorities, the project provided spaces for dialogue and exchange, ensuring that youth voices are heard in decision-making. By focusing on one governorate, the project delivered a tailored, impactful approach, strengthening youth participation and generating insights for broader national discussions on local governance.
