Statement on Israel-Gaza

DRI has been working in the Middle East for a long time to support democracy, the rule of law,and human rights.

We are shocked by the retu to full-scale war in Israel and the Gaza Strip and are conceed about its potential to spill over into the wider region, threatening world peace.

We condemn all barbaric targeting and harming of civilians, acts that are in blatant violation of inteational humanitarian law (which applies to armed conflicts),which must be scrupulously upheld,in all circumstances and without exception,by all state and non-state belligerents,as a sign of common humanity.

We support the call made by the UN Secretary General for a humanitarian ceasefire allowing for the immediate, unrestricted, and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid for the besieged civilians of Gaza, and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

War and terror will not bring peace to the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and their neighbouring states. We regret that over the last decades, many policymakers lost interest in the fate of the Palestinians,in the peace process, and in a just and long-lasting peaceful solution, including the two-state solution.

We urge all conceed parties and the inteational community to help reach a political solution,in a region that deserves peace at last.
