The United for Democracy – Support Project for the Coalition for National Election Observation in Congo (PACONEC) is designed around three core pillars to enhance democratic processes in in Democratic Republic of Congo:
Election Observation and Support: This pillar focuses on collaborating with local partners and coalitions to monitor elections effectively. The project aims to advocate for inclusive electoral processes by employing a participatory-based approach that is locally led.
Capacity Building for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs): A significant component of the project involves strengthening key local CSOs through targeted training in technical and managerial aspects. This initiative is complemented by a detailed coaching plan that is integrated with grant disbursement. The objective is to empower these organizations to effectively implement democracy-related projects, thereby fostering a robust civil society framework that can uphold democratic ideals.
Advocacy for Inclusive Elections: The project actively works to influence policy and engage stakeholders in promoting electoral reforms that ensure broad participation. By focusing on advocacy, PACONEC seeks to bring about changes that make the electoral process transparent and more accessible to all segments of society, particularly marginalized groups, thereby reinforcing the democratic fabric of the nation.
Together, these pillars work synergistically to cultivate a more democratic environment in DR Congo, ensuring that elections are not only observed and reported on but also conducted in a manner that upholds democratic principles and inclusivity.
