Revaler Str. 29, 10245 Berlin

18:30 – 20:00

On 1 June, Poles head to the polls in the second round of a hotly contested presidential election. Facing off are the centrist mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, a member of the Civic Platform and an ally of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and the right-wing historian Karol Nawrocki, backed by the chief opposition party PiS. This is a high-stakes vote with many contested issues, among which is whether the Tusk government will be able to continue its agenda of reforming the judiciary.

The future of the rule of law restoration process hangs on the outcome of the vote. To closely monitor this election, we enlisted the help of Dr Maria Skóra, a re:constitution programme Fellow, Policy Fellow of Das Progressive Zentrum, and Research Fellow at the Institut für Europäische Politik. With Dr Skóra, we have developed a comparative analysis of the candidates’ manifestos and a scenario-building document.

On 28 May at 16:00 CET – 17:00 CET, we invite you to join a webinar where Dr Skóra will present the possible scenarios for the future of the rule of law, democracy, and relations with the EU, depending on who walks into the Presidential Palace in Warsaw on 1 August.

The webinar will be moderated by Jakub Jaraczewski, Research Coordinator (Rule of Law), Democracy Reporting International.
